          Hildengardo não acredita quando abre os olhos, e, tem, ante si, a luz do dia. Ao contrário de tantas outras noites de curtos sonos ou vigílias intermináveis, desta vez dormira tranquilamente um único sono.   
          Ao pegar no livro, não intentara mais que aliviar-se daquele latejar de insuportável sofrimento. Ainda que a princípio a leitura lhe fosse difícil por estar longe de atingir a concentração exigida, ele sentira depois como que num clique, uma fenda de frescura a abrir-se, a alargar-lhe os horizontes, a libertá-lo          
         — Ah, Como é bela a liberdade do espírito, Santo Deus!” mas longe dele imaginar a possibilidade de um sono tão tranquilo até a luz do dia lhe entrar pelas frestas das janelas.   
          Esse é o caminho; a reflexão pela compreensão do problema, alivia; não se podendo, contudo, ficar aprisionado ao assunto causador do sofrimento, há que libertar a mente, dando-lhe outro alimento.
